I am an American female, politically conservative, living in Los Angeles who happens to be black.
2. What is this blog about?
I guess it’s about everything as it pertains to me. I know that’s an absolutely cheesy, almost arrogant, way of describing a blog but its true. This blog comes from the perspective of a woman living on the west coast of the United States of America and, is composed of essays based on inferences I’ve made in my everyday life. My purpose is only to make people think.
3. Am I a self hater?
I have this question leveled at me constantly and the answer is no. If I hated myself than I wouldn't care and I wouldn't be writing this blog.
I don’t hate being black; I just don’t define myself as black first. I am a person- a woman- an American, who happens to be black. I guess, maybe, I define myself as a woman first.
The trouble is that society defines me as black first. My trouble is that I see so many others who look like me (black women in particular) in a state of discomfort and confusion. I believe that the only way to change matters is to be honest about what’s wrong. Sometimes this means discussing the negative and not pointing the finger or making excuses or handing out explanations. We are so much more capable than where we are today. Continuing to blame the WM, the Jewish man, the Hispanic man, and now the Asian man will only keep us further behind.
4. Do I hate BM?
In all honesty, NO! That would mean that I hate my father, my brother, all my uncles, and ultimately myself.
5. What is with the list of IR couples?
The side bar’s purpose is to dispel the following misconceptions:
WM don't find BW attractive.
WM just want BW who look and act white.
WM only want BW for sex.
Only WM in their 40s who’ve been passed over by all other women consider dating and marrying BW.
BW are deemed unattractive to most men, thus only attractive to BM.
6. Why the focus on IR dating and BW?
It’s one of the issues I am interested in now. 6 months from now I maybe interested in something else.
It’s also a self esteem and image issue. I want BW to know that they do have large scale appeal. There is no reason for BW to tow the racial purity line when no one else is. We are deserving of quality partners no matter what their color.
Most BW have the above mentioned misconceptions ingrained in their psyches and its damaging. It implies that BW are only attractive to one group of people which is the equivalent of saying "You have a face only a mother could love."
I do encourage BW to date across color lines because selecting a mate is about casting a wide net. When you exclude based on skin color you limit the number of people available to you, thus shrinking your net.
7. What’s with the picture of the royal family of Lichtenstein?
Because of comments like the following:
"Let me understand what we are talking about here--Lichtenstein, the pitiful little postage stamp of a country? Lichtenstein, Europe's answer to Botswana? Lichtenstein the country that mostly exists as the answer to a trivia questions?
Why would we be impressed that a black woman married into the royal family of this little theme park with a seat at the United Nations? I'm embarrassed. She probably has to bring her own lunch and make the beds twice a week."
People who have to make statements like this are haters and, more surprisingly are often black! These people feel the need to continue to put BW down thus keeping them in their place. Why not just be happy for the girl instead? The royals of Lichtenstein are worth several billion; Princess Angela is making no one’s bed, not even her own.
The point is to show, again, that BW are desirable to all men; if Angela Brown can marry a prince (who is 11 years her junior by the way), with a billion dollar trust fund, than there is no reason for you or I to settle for less than what we truly deserve.
8. Am I judgmental?
An emphatic YES! I am one of the most judgmental people you will ever meet.
9. Do you think it’s wrong to be judgmental?
It’s a sin, yes. However, I think if more people were judgmental there would be a lot less bull shit in our society. We’ve become so obsessed with being PC that we accept everything and make no judgments on what is best for society, culture, and most importantly future generations. We’re a society of people who believe its okay to do whatever we want, think about the consequences later and, no one has a right to say anything about it. That’s a shame.
10. Do I care if you judge me?
Absolutely, not.

Zabeth,
It's nice to run across your blog. I admire you for standing up your conservative values. I think that if you are a conservative and black it can be even harder.
My girlfriend is in the same situation as you are and she has told me of the times when people have said to her: "You can't be a conservative, your black." As if at birth, each black baby is given a Democrat registration card! No one's ever said that to me (I'm white), so it's odd that it's considered out of the norm to be a conservative if you are black.
Take care,
leicaguy
Take care
Thank you for that. That's very cool of you. I can't even begin to explain how difficult it can be LOL! It seems though that I have always been an outsider so, it gets easier with time. I'm used to having to defend my position.
But again thank you.
Hi Zabeth,
I just wanted to comment about your #7 entry.
" 7. The point is to show, again, that BW are desirable to all men; if Angela Brown can marry a prince (who is 11 years her junior by the way), with a billion dollar trust fund, than there is no reason for you or I to settle for less than what we truly deserve."
The post about Princess Angela was wonderful and I feel the same way when I first found out about her. It is a shame more black women don't know about her. Thanks for putting it out there!
LOVED your comments about Princess Angela. Princess Angela by herself could inspire a LOT of black women if they knoew about her. Sister has it going on: a title, billons, access to society, a black son in line for the throne. She is an AMAZING woman, and I wish she wasn't so press shy. More black women in the US need to know about her.
Maybe she's afraid of stalkers and just doesn't want the hassle? If roslyn pissed off alot of people just blogging, imagine the hatred Princess A. would get from a few Essence/Ebony articles and a website interview or two?
Then again, she doesn't live around here...
I love your comment on Princess angela. I admire this lady so much. But I don't blame her for being private. the Lichtenstein Princely family is a very, very private family. So her modesty and lack of seeking publicity fits right into the Family. Also, I'm a black conservative myself, so I know how you feel. I don't even say that I am a conservative anymore unless I am directly asked (which I try to avoid). But I am not ashamed to be one. I am sure that more blacks will be conservative in the future.
The question should not be do you hate BM, it should be do BM hate BW.
I would like the person who wrote the comment (that you were referring to in the post) about the royal family of Liechtenstein to know that they are richer than the Windsor family that occupies the throne in Great Britain. Yes, Queen Elizabeth II is a poor relation compared to them!
